Consistent recognition over the years reflects not only Masan’s concrete efforts but also the Group’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its core strategy-true to its philosophy of “doing well by doing good.”

    Sustainability as a Strategic Choice

Masan Group is one of Vietnam’s leading corporations in the consumer and retail sectors. With a mission to deliver essential, high-quality products and services that meet the evolving needs of over 100 million consumers in Vietnam and globally, Masan operates a diverse ecosystem of high-growth potential businesses, including:

    Fast-moving consumer goods-Masan Consumer (brands: CHIN-SU, Nam Ngư, Omachi, Wake-Up 247)
    • Branded meat-Masan MEATLife (MEATDeli, Ponnie, Heo Cao Bồi)
    • Retail-WinCommerce (WinMart, WinMart+, WiN)
    • Tea & Coffee chain-Phuc Long Heritage (Phuc Long)
    • High-tech materials-Masan High-Tech Materials
As part of its growth journey, Masan has embedded sustainability into its business strategy, aiming to balance financial performance with environmental and social priorities. This approach is reflected in initiatives spanning product innovation, supply chain governance, safety and transparency standards, and long-term community engagement programs.

According to the Group’s annual report, Masan has adopted a sustainability framework built on three key pillars:
    • Fostering innovation and sustainable growth
    • Caring for the environment and community
    • Trusted by employees and customers
This framework aligns with international standards such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and IFC Performance Standards, guiding Masan toward long-term environmental and social responsibility alongside operational excellence.

In 2024, several highlights underscored Masan’s sustainability progress:
    • 100% of factories certified with international food safety standards (FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP)
    • 25.26% of total energy consumption came from renewable sources
    • Women made up 62% of total employees and 43% of middle and senior management
    • 2,555 training courses organized or facilitated by Masan Growth Center, with 58,654 participants
Additionally, Masan allocated over VND 144 billion in 2024 for community development programs, focusing on education, healthcare and nutrition. Masan Consumer alone carried out nine social initiatives to support vulnerable groups and improve living standards across localities-showcasing the Group’s commitment to embedding social responsibility into business growth.

Sustainability in Action Across the Masan Ecosystem

To align sustainability initiatives across the ecosystem, Masan established a Group-level ESG Committee in 2023. This committee oversees and coordinates ESG practices across its member companies. ESG integration into operations, governance, and investment decisions is seen as a foundation for long-term value creation.

At Masan Consumer, the focus is on product innovation for consumer health and operational efficiency to minimize environmental impact. In 2024:
    • 65% of energy used came from renewable sources
    • Greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 & 2) were reduced by 18% year-over-year
    • Over 80% of waste was diverted from landfill, with 46% recycled
    • 9 community programs were launched, contributing over VND 25 billion

In the branded meat segment, Masan MEATLife accelerated the development of high-tech farms that emphasize ecological operations and energy savings. For instance, its pig farms in Nghe An (Farms S1 and S2) use biogas technology to convert livestock waste into renewable energy. In 2024, an estimated 3.67 million m³ of biogas (methane) was generated via anaerobic digestion, powering on-site electricity production. This initiative reduces environmental impact while optimizing energy costs.

In retail, WinCommerce promoted sustainable consumption at the store level by encouraging the use of biodegradable and reusable shopping bags, helping reduce plastic waste and build eco-conscious consumer habits.

At Masan High-Tech Materials, the company paired mining operations with ecological restoration. A notable project involves collaboration with UFU Institute (Germany) to pilot energy crop cultivation on post-mining land. Research shows that Acacia Hybrid trees can absorb up to 172 tons of CO₂ per hectare over six years-laying the groundwork for a scalable reforestation model.

Sustainability as a Core Growth Enabler

At Masan, sustainability is not treated as a standalone initiative, but as an integral part of long-term growth strategy. From product development to supply chains, operations to talent, the Group is steadily turning its “doing well by doing good” philosophy into measurable actions with clear data, structure, and consistent commitment.

This foundation allows Masan to build trust among consumers, partners, and investors while unlocking new growth opportunities in an increasingly responsible and sustainability-focused business landscape.
